Highland Branch RMA-TRMC regular meeting held in The Club 5 Gordon Terrace, Inverness IV2 3HD on Saturday 24th February 2024 at 12:30 hrs.

Welcome. The Chairman welcomed all those present and thanked them for attending.

 

Loyal toast. The Chairman asked us to raise our glasses in a toast to “His Majesty The King, our Captain General” followed by “The Royal Marines”.

28 Regional AGM at RM Condor Mac, Dixie and I present. I was made Vice Chairman S&NI

6 Kings Coronation where we had a big breakfast. Ali MacGillivray and I at the Legion, with article in the paper

12 Army v Navy at Twickenham Dixie and I Navy won 39 - 22 with a RM Captain and over half the team RMs

13th Graspan Parade

20 Sam and I attended a RMA event at the Tower of London hosted by Constable of the Tower General Gordon Messenger. We were greeted by two RM Yeoman Andy Merry and Barnie Rubble.

3 Ali MacDonalds 40th at the Fairways Golf Club Ali Mac and I along with Mac and Vanessa

10th I did my charity walks for Prostate Scotland raising nearly £3,000.00

1 CA AGM at the NMA Barry presented the ICHC proposal which was fully supported by the CA and the SSP committee will take this forward

The president’s report.

 

Thanks for the support during the last year.  I am getting better and thanks to the Office Bearers especially Paul .

There are only two members left of the original branch myself and James, it will soon be the 20th anniversary of the forming of the branch and I think we should have a Bash to commemorate it/

 

The secretary’s report.

 

As you know I came into the job when Sandy retired, the only problem I have had was Sylvia’s email but Paul solved that last month and now everything is OK

 

 

 

Treasurer’s Report.

 

The treasurer reported that in the Bank we have £3201.32  Accounts sheet passed round and awaiting confirming

The bonus ball was won by Sam and Paul (twice)

 

Welfare report.

 

This year we have lost 2 members who crossed the bar Maldwyn (Taff) Williams who died in August Funeral attended by 7 members of the branch.

David Sutherland died in December after long illness. No funeral at his request.

Our good friend to our branch Sheila Culliven died in April whose funeral was attended by branch that John appreciated.

Alastair McKenzie had a difficult year with many visits to hospital and the diagnosis of Parkinson disease As we can all see he is doing so well. Well done Alistair.

Tricia Sutherland is doing well Waiting for CT scan and appointment with the oncologist.

Both Willie Rae and Phil Lefevre are waiting hospital appointments for cataract and facial growth removal.

John Culliven is still struggling with struggling with his catheter and continued bowel troubles. He is also waiting for a cataract operation. His mood is quite low and he feels he is waiting to join Sheila.

Robert Clark Catalina house continues his dialysis and is doing well.

Sadly, Esther McIntyre (David's widow) died peacefully last week. I sent flowers to her daughters from the branch.

Membership Report

 

John Cowie is retiring soon and looking forward to being an office bearer.  Donnie Nicolson having a Bash October and we might be able to recruit some there

 

 

Globe and Laurel Report.

 

Alastair stated that The Globe and Laurel was quite a long one including the photos of Dixies’ son Stephen laying a wreath at the Memorial in the Falklands. I wrote a lot about the funeral of Lochiel because he was such a genuine lovely person who did a lot for the Marines and the Commandos. I have not put one in for this one because I put such a lot in this one

It is proposed that in accordance with Head Office Accounting that the AGM will be forwarded to January next year to fall in with head office

The Raffle. The raffle raised the tremendous amount of £145.00 for which the chairman was truly grateful.
